THE TRADITION OF MANUFACTURING WEDDING ACCESSORIES IN THE VILLAGE OF ZALIZNYAK OF THE SUMY REGION (MIDDLE—SECOND HALF OF THE 20th CENTURY)

Abstract. Weddings in Sumy Oblast have long been accompanied by a significant number of ceremonies, each of which involved the use of certain attributes.
In particular, in the village of Zaliznyak, now the Verkhnyosyrovat community of the Sumy region, in the middle and second half of the 20th century, there was a tradition of supplementing the festive attire of couple (bride and groom), as well as girlfriend and boyfriend, with special ornaments made of copper wire and thin paper fixed with a layer of paraffin.
The purpose of the reconnaissance is to highlight the peculiarities of the local tradition of making wedding attributes on the basis of materials collected during the expedition research of the employees of the department of intangible cultural heritage of the Sumy Regional Scientific and Methodological Center of Culture and Arts to the village of Zaliznyak of the Verkhnyosyrovatsk community of the Sumy district (2021—2023).
The object of the study is the history and technology of creating ceremonial elements of folk clothing and other attributes in Sumy Oblast.
The subject of ethnographic research is the peculiarities of the tradition of making wedding attributes in the village of Zaliznyak of the Sumy region in the middle and second half of the 20th century.
The research methodology is based, first of all, on the expedition observations of the author, the principle of scientific objectivity, theoretical analysis and systematization.
Ethnographic research was written on the basis of field materials collected by the author, as well as by the head of the department of intangible cultural heritage of the Sumy regional scientific and methodical center of culture and arts, Victoria Havrylenko, in the village of Zaliznyak in the period from 2021 to 2023. Olga Shlyazhko, Iryna Varlamova and Yuliya Yehorova were also participants in the expedition study.
