Abstract. The article is devoted to the life and work of a prominent figure in the scholarly and artistic landscape of Ukraine — renowned Ukrainian art historian, educator, and artist Roman Yatsiv.
Roman Yatsiv was born on 26 August 1956 into the family of the distinguished Ukrainian graphic artist and educator Myron Yatsiv. He holds the academic degrees of PhD in Art History and Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Lviv National Academy of Arts. He is an Honoured Worker of Culture of Ukraine, a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, Chair of the Commission on Fine and Decorative Arts, and a Full Member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society. He is also the recipient of the Sviatoslav Hordynsky Lviv Regional Prize in Culture, Literature, Art, Journalism, and Architecture in the category of Cultural Studies, Art History, and Museum Studies.
The aim of this article is to outline the life and professional trajectory of Roman Yatsiv, tracing the stages of his development as a distinguished scholar, art critic, educator, public figure, and accomplished artist. The study examines the formative phases of his personal and professional growth within his family environment and during his studies at the Lviv State Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts. It also analyzes his achievements in the fields of art history scholarship and artistic practice.
The object of the research is the biography of Roman Yatsiv viewed through the prism of his family background and the scholarly and artistic environment in which he developed.
The subject of the research is the interpretation and analysis of Roman Yatsiv’s scholarly and artistic concepts in the context of contemporary cultural and artistic processes.
The source base of the study comprises memoirs and publications devoted to Roman Yatsiv, his art historical writings, and his paintings and graphic works.
The methodological framework of the research is based on a comprehensive analytical approach employing biographical-chronological, cultural-artistic, and source-critical methods, together with the method of formal analysis.
