Abstract. Introduction: Orographic terminology combines lexemes (appellatives) to designate the relief of the earth’s surface. The lexical-semantic analysis of this group of deappellative microtoponyms makes it possible to describe peculiarities of the relief of the historical region. Problem statement: The peculiarities of diachronic microtoponymy of Sambirskyy cyrkul is not described enough in linguistic scientific works. The purpose of the article is to analyze one of the lexical-semantic groups of microtoponyms of the Sambirskyy cyrkul — proper names of small geographical objects motivated by names of relief elevations. Methods: It is used the descriptive method, the comparative method, the contextual analysis. Sambirskyy cyrkul is an administrative-territorial unit of Galicia at the end of the 18th — the beginning of the 19th cc. The region included 412 settlements. According to the modern division, the territory of the cyrkul coincides with a significant part of the Lviv region, and 5 settlements are located on the territory of Poland. The source base of the research is the Josyphinska (1785—1788) and Francyscanska (1819—1820) metrics, concluded during the reigns of Emperors Joseph II and Franz I. The metrics are kept at the Central State Historical Archive of Lviv. These are the first land cadastres of Galicia. The colloquial proper names of fields, pastures, hayfields, roads, forests, thickets, mountains, marshes (microtoponyms) are reflected there. Results: It was found out that the topographic nomenclature, which indicates the peculiarities of the relief, is a productive layer of vocabulary in creating the names of microobjects. Conclusion: The creative (motivational) bases of the microtoponyms of the Sambirskyy cyrkul, motivated by orographic terms, were the names of elevations, lowlands, and plain areas. Quantitatively, the largest group of microtoponyms is proper names formed from appellatives denoting elevations (23 lexemes and words derived from them with the same root). This is caused by the physical and geographical characteristics of the historical region.
