THE FINE ARTS HERITAGE OF O.M. BEKETOV IN THE CONTEXT OF CULTURAL AND ARTISTIC LIFE OF KHARKIV LATE NINETEENTH — FIRST THIRD OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY

Abstract. In the proposed article, the author aims to analyse the graphic and pictorial heritage of the academician of architecture O.M. Beketov (1862—1941) during the heyday of his artistic activity, which falls on the first third of the XX century.The study presents more than one hundred works of painting and graphics kept in the collection of the master’s descendants, the Rofe-Beketov family, as well as in the funds of state institutions, such as the Kharkiv Art Museum and the V.G. Zabolotny State NAMS. Based on the most characteristic works, the study presents the most important features of the style, iconography, and creative method of Beketov’s paintings and drawings, which are kept in the collection of the master’s descendants, the Rofe-Beketov family, as well as in the collections of state institutions — the Kharkiv Art Museum and the State Scientific Architectural and Construction Library of V.V. Zabolotnyi. As an architect, Oleksii Beketov is well known in the history of Ukrainian culture, but his paintings, which accompanied him almost all his life, are generaly known to researchers and his close family circle. Therefore, the article aims to systematise the materials developed by previous authors related to this topic, to identify the main plot and thematic directions of O. Beketov’s work, compositional and colouristic features of his graphic and pictorial style, the evolution of his work and the place of his visual heritage in the context of the artistic life of Kharkiv in the first third of the XX century.

The object of the study is the graphics and painting of O.M. Beketov, which is in the collection of the Rofe-Beketov family, ХХМ, DNABB named after V.H. Zabolotny, and the subject is the peculiarities of the creative manner of the architect-artist, for whom art was an area of ​​personal interest unrelated to orders or commercial tasks.

The article has thrown some light upon a sum of scientific findings got during XIX to XXI cc. in historio-ethnographic studies of Bessarabia and Moldavian Ukrainians. Traditional folk clothes of velikobychkovsky hutsuly of XIX — the first half of XX century
In the study based upon numerous field materials, literature sources as well as ethnographic, historio-cultural and regional museum collections has been performed complex analysis in traditional folk clothes by Hutzul population of Velyky Bychkiv village in Transcarpathian region. Detailed descriptions of femi­nine and masculine clothing complexes of the mentioned area have been presented. In characterizing of those main attention has been paid to the detail of cut in separate components of dress; cut of feminine shirt has been added as an illustration.

Maternity ritualism by volhynians in publications of the second half XIX to the early XXI cc.
In the article have been considered some basic landmarks for fixing and publication of ethnographic materials on the maternity rites of Volhynia with analytical study in ritual elements, their kinds and territories of origin. The article has also raised a problem of gaps in studies of maternity rites of Ukrainian historio-ethnographic Volhynia.
