Abstract. Zynoviy Bulyk was a linguist, teacher and translator who worked at the Faculty of Philology at Ivan Franko University of Lviv from 1959 to 1973 and studied musical terminology and dialects of the Ukrainian language, but was dismissed from the university for his national-patriotic activities and dissemination of dissident literature.
The achievements of Zynoviy Bulyk in the musical field were analyzed: he was one of the founders of the student song and dance ensemble «Cheremosh» of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and the conductor of its orchestra (1963—1970), the concertmaster of the university symphony orchestra (1956—1973), a member of the university pop orchestras (1954—1963), a violinist in the Orchestra of Ukrainian Folk Instruments of Lviv Radio and Television (1963—1973), the founder and leader of the Ukrainian folk instrument orchestra «Lemkivski Hudaky» within the choral chapel «Lemkovyna» (1979—1992), a member of the choir of the faculty of Lviv S. Lyudkevych Music College (1990—2012).
The aim of this study is to analyze the scientific, pedagogical and musical activities of Zynoviy Bulyk, as well as to assess his contribution to the development of Ukrainian philology and musical culture. The object of the study is the scientific, pedagogical and musical activities of Zynoviy Bulyk, while the subject is his contribution to the development of Ukrainian philology and the cultural heritage of Ukraine. The following methods were applied: the historical-biographical method — for analyzing the life path and scholarly activities of Zynoviy Bulyk; the comparative-historical method — for identifying the peculiarities of his contribution to the study of musical terminology; contextual analysis — for evaluating his pedagogical and musical activities within socio-historical conditions; the source studies method — for examining materials from family archives, publications and testimonies of contemporaries.
