Abstract. Introduction. After World War II, the Soviet government viewed industrial cooperation as a means to revive the economy and produce consumer goods. The handicraft industry operated within the cooperative sector of the economy, it functioned on cooperative principles within the Soviet planned economy. Accordingly, the range of products had to be oriented towards the all-Union requirements, so the products had to be standardized.
Purpose. The purpose of this publication is to examine the product range of artel goods through the example of the Vinnytsia Interregional Union of handicraft industry (1946—1949).
Methods. The range of products of the union is analyzed based on its archival fund (R 3495), which is stored in the State Archives of Vinnytsia Region.
Results. The product range of the union was shaped through state orders and the initiatives of the artels themselves. The state order was determined by the supply of raw materials (fabric and threads) for embroidery and carpet. The state not only defined the nomenclature of products but also the quantity of each item. This applied to embroidered clothing (for women, men, and children), bed and table linens, textile interior items, carpets, and rugs. On their own initiative, the union developed tailoring, pottery, woodworking, block printing, and batik crafts using local raw materials. The commercial products of these crafts can be grouped into the following categories: ceramic tableware, clothing, haberdashery, stationery, knitwear items, and toys.
Conclusion. Despite the focus on traditional ethnic aesthetics of the products, the product range of the artels was intended for the urban population and reflected their consumer perceptions of the surrounding post-war world, especially since rural residents had neither industrial cards nor money.
