Abstract. The article analyzes the activities of the clerical trade and industrial associations Ryznytsia (Sambir) and Dostava (Stanyslaviv — Lviv), which played a leading role in the development of Ukrainian church art in Galicia during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It explores the ways in which the clergy, through the establishment of their own ecclesiastical industry, contributed to the consolidation of a national artistic style in vestment design and sacred art more broadly.
Purpose. The study aims to highlight the trade and production activities of Ukrainian clerical associations within the context of ecclesiastical textile studies, particularly to define the role of these commercial organizations in the development of Galician liturgical art and in shaping a distinct Ukrainian identity in church aesthetics.
The object of the research is the historical and cultural dimensions of the functioning of the clerical trade and industrial associations Ryznytsia and Dostava. The subject is their production —liturgical embroidery and textile items used in church ritual practice.
Chronological and Geographical Framewor. The chronological scope corresponds to the period indicated in the title (late 19th — early 20th century). The geographical coverage includes the territories of modern Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Ternopil regions.
The source base comprises periodicals and promotional publications of the clerical associations, Galician press materials, archival documents, and reference literature. The study also draws upon artefacts from museum collections (LMIR, MEKhP, TKM, IFHM) and the author’s field surveys in churches of Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions.
Methods. Historical, comparative, and art-historical methods were applied to analyze the creative practices of the associations’ designers and embroiderers and to assess their contribution to the evolution of Ukrainian ecclesiastical art.
Results. The research demonstrates that the activities of Ryznytsia and Dostava not only stimulated the revival of Ukrainian sacred art traditions but also strengthened the sense of cultural self-awareness among the clergy and artisans. These associations became important agents in the formation of a national style in church textiles and liturgical embroidery, contributing significantly to the artistic heritage of Galicia.
