Abstract. Formulation of the problem. December 11, 1873 the well-known public figure, writer Oleksandr Konyskyi, together with professors Dmytro Pylchykov and Mykola Zhuchenko, laid the organizational foundations of the Taras Shevchenko Scientific Society (NTSh) in Lviv. Organizationally and structurally, the Society was formed after Western European scientific institutions; the academic status of outstanding domestic scientists and a significant number of foreign luminaries was secured.
The purpose of the article is to reveal the historical significance of the National Technical University in terms of revitalizing social activity over its 150-year history.
Taras Shevchenko Scientific Society (object of research), comprehensively studying the history of the Ukrainian people, refuted and resisted the influx of the Moscow imperial false narrative that distorted the historical integrity of Ukraine. The text emphasizes the Ukrainian national idea as the basic position of the state ideology (the subject of the study), which consists in the construction of the highest value of Ukrainian society – the Ukrainian person, who over the course of a millennium, asserting its own ethnic space, created cultural and historical uniqueness in it as a significant part of the world civilization
Conclusions. Nowadays, the Taras Shevchenko Scientific Society has resumed its creative life, as an illustration of the historical endurance of the national intellectual and civil feat for the development of the State. About the 150-year anniversary of the Taras Shevchenko Scientific Society, it can be said that it was the light of science and knowledge for the nation!
The methodology of the research is based on general scientific methodological principles and the main requirements for works of historical and ethnological direction.
