Abstract. In the second half of the 19th century, in the context of modernisation processes in Central and Eastern Europe, public interest in folk arts and crafts as important components of national identity grew. In the region of Halychyna, this led to the development of a system of professional education in the field of folk crafts. One of the most striking examples of this development was the foundation of the Ceramics School in Kolomyia (1876—1914), the first educational centre for artistic ceramics in the region. The relevance of the topic lies in the need for broader coverage of the context of the forma- tion of professional schools in Halychyna, in particular Ce- ramics School in Kolomyia, and in understanding of the role of art schools in preserving and transforming traditions. Of particular importance is the analysis of the museum collection, which represents different stages of the School’s activity, the stylistic features of its products, and the works of teachers and students that became crucial in the formation of professional artistic ceramics in the region.
The purpose of the article is to highlight the activities of the Kolomyia Ceramics School, as well as to analyse the process of forming a collection of its works in the funds of The National Museum. The object of the study is the activity of the Kolomyia Ceramics School, the subject is the process of forming the museum collection of the Ceramics School. The methodo logical basis of the study is an interdisciplinary approach based on a combination of historical, cultural, artistic, archival and museological analysis. The historical method was used to reconstruct the process of the School’s foundation and activities, to identify the social and cultural prerequisites for its emergence. The method of art historical analysis was used to study the style, forms, and decor of the Ceramics School’s products. The source study method was used in the work with archival documents and periodicals. With the help of museological analysis, the principles of forming the collection of ceramics in the National Museum’s funds were studied. This approach allows us to comprehensively consider the Kolomyia Ceramics School as an educational, artistic, and cultural phenomenon.
