About magazine
“The Ethnology Notebooks” is bimonthly periodical issued by National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Ethnology Institute of NAS of Ukraine. It had been founded in January 1995 at Lviv as published voice of a widely-known in Ukraine centre of studies in ethnology, folklore, art history and museology.
The appearance of specialized academic periodical had been entailed by intensive development of ethnographic knowledge under conditions of regained Ukrainian statehood, in the circumstances of sophisticated transformations in the whole sociocultural space and re-establishing of institutional ties with other ethnological centres in Ukraine and abroad.
The appearance of a new periodical had been quite important fact of public life as in then-a-day academic as well as university communities there was no intellectual platform for probing of scientific achievements and discussions concerning key problems of ethnos and nation, sphere of customs, dynamic changes in traditional ritualism, people’s knowledge and crafts, spiritual, material and aesthetical culture, world schools of ethnology, cultural anthropology, folklore studies, ethnical psychology, art history, museology, history and philosophy of culture etc.
In relatively short term “The Ethnology Notebooks” had exceeded its basal level of institutional medium of the Ethnology Institute of NAS of Ukraine and become all-national bank of data and a place for discussions in various aspects of Ukrainian ethnical traditionalism as well as in professional analytics concerned with sociocultural dynamics in the development of Ukrainian nation.
Now with “The Ethnology Notebooks” co-operate eminent scholars working in Ukraine and abroad, representatives of a number of research (academic and university) centres, scientists of middle and younger generations, incl. post-graduates and aspirants. The Editorial Board is looking forward for co-operation with everybody interested in publication of own elaborations in contemporary Humanities.
“The Ethnology Notebooks” is included in the List of scientific professional editions of Ukraine, in which the results of dissertations for the scientific degrees of the doctor and the candidate of sciences can be published.

The politics of open acces
The editorial board of the journal “The Ethnology Notebooks” is guided in its work by international ethical rules of scientific publications and adheres to the policy of open access to published material. Users can read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of articles in this magazine. The only restriction on reproduction and distribution and the only condition of copyright in this area should be the author’s right to control the integrity of his work and binding references to his name when using the work and its citation. This is in line with the definition of BOAI (Budapest Open Access Initiative) of open access [to reviewed scientific literature].
Full-text access in real-time to the scientific articles of the Magazine on the official site in the section Archive of rooms.
Reviewing
The procedure for independent reviewing is provided by all articles submitted to the editorial staff of the magazine. Reviewers – scientists who carry out research in the specialty. The quality of research, originality, novelty, structure of the article is evaluated.
Neither the author nor the reviewers are given information about each other. The sent article sends (without the author’s name) to two selected reviewers who are experts in this field.
Review of manuscripts is conducted confidentially. The disclosure of the confidentiality of the review of the manuscript violates the rights of the author. Editors do not disclose information relating to the manuscript to anyone other than authors and reviewers themselves. Violation of confidentiality is possible only in the case of a statement of unreliability or falsification of materials, in all other cases, its conservation is mandatory.
Responsibility for infringement of copyright and non-compliance with existing standards in the materials of the article rests with the author of the article. The author and reviewers are responsible for the reliability of the above facts and data, the validity of the conclusions and recommendations made and the scientific and practical level of the articles.
Reviewers send reviews to the editorial board, the editorial board takes the final decision on publication based on the conclusions of the reviewers.
In the case of a negative review or substantial remarks, the article may be rejected or returned to the author (authors) for revision.
The final decision, along with comments from reviewers, is sent to the author.
