Abstract. Introduction. The iconographic image of «The Savior in a Crown of Thorns» represents a significant intersection of theological depth and artistic expression within the Ukrainian sacred tradition. This motif serves as a complex cultural code, reflecting the evolution of religious consciousness from the Byzantine canon towards the emotional intensity of the Renaissance and Baroque eras.

Problem Statement. Despite the importance of this iconography, there remains a lack of understanding regarding the mechanisms by which Western religious mysticism and emotionally saturated artistic forms were integrated into the traditionally symbolic and allegorical framework of Ukrainian sacred art. The delay in adopting this motif within the established iconographic canon and its subsequent widespread consolidation as an integral element of temple and domestic worship requires a detailed scholarly investigation.

Purpose. This study aims to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the semantic and psychological layers of «The Savior in a Crown of Thorns» within the Ukrainian artistic tradition, exploring its evolution from a symbol of suffering to a representation of royal dignity and spiritual victory.

Methods. The research employs a multidisciplinary approach, combining historical-comparative analysis, formal-stylistic examination of easel painting and sculpture, and art-historical contextualization. It integrates psychological interpretation to evaluate the impact of anthropocentricity and naturalism on the viewer.

Conclusion. The icon of «The Savior in a Crown of Thorns» emerged as a transformative phenomenon in 18th—20th century Ukrainian art. By shifting from a purely passionate attribute to a symbol of victory over death, the image redefined the role of sacred art as a tool for profound internal spiritual engagement, leaving a lasting legacy in both monumental and household iconography.

Keywords: Ecce Homo, iconography, Jesus Christ, dignity, catharsis, sacred art, suffering, Passion of Christ, crown of thorns.
