Abstract. The article was written based on the results of the Ukrainian-Lithuanian interdisciplinary R&D projects «Ornamentation of Western Ukrainian and Lithuanian Folk Textile: Universal and Unique Parameters» (2018—2019) and «Unique Technologies of Ethnographic Textile: Experience of Preservation in Western Ukraine and Lithuania» (2022—2023) (the project have been supported by the Lithuanian Research Council and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine [grant number in Lithuania S-LU-22-5]). Olena Ivanivna Nikorak, a well-known researcher of Ukrainian traditional textiles, became the head of both projects from the Ukrainian side.
The article’s purpose consists in showing the main stages of work on projects; analyzing the results of their implementation; being revealed the main groups of investigated textile items, as well as ways of popularizing scientific activity one of which was held exhibition of Lithuanian and Ukrainian towels in the Open Air Museum of Lithuania in Rumљiљkės.
Sources and methods. The article is based on project proposals and reporting documentation of R&D, scientific and popular science articles that were published as a result of the implementation of Ukrainian-Lithuanian projects between scientists of the Ethnology Institute of the NAS of Ukraine and the Kaunas University of Technology, photos and video materials obtained during the joint work of scientists of both countries. Within the writing of the article, general scientific methods of abstraction, analysis, generalization, and classification, as well as the method of art analysis and comparison were used in the study.
Results. During the implementation of the projects, scientists of the Ethnology Institute of the NAS of Ukraine and the Kaunas University of Technology identified some priority groups of ethnographic textiles, in particular, traditional coverlets, towels, and sashes. The study and comparison of Ukrainian and Lithuanian textile items were conducted on some interrelated levels: technical, artistic, and ethnological. The results of the scientists’ activities were shown in numerous scientific and popular science articles, in reports at all-Ukrainian and international conferences, and were also used during the preparation of a Lithuanian and Ukrainian towels exhibition named «Weave, sister, towels».
