ROMAN YATSIV‘S ANNIVERSARY DINNER: ART HISTORY, PAINTING AND GRAPHIC EXHIBITIONS 2017—2026

Abstract. The relevance of the article is due to the celebration of the anniversary of the outstanding art critic, teacher, candidate of art history, doctor of historical sciences Roman Yatsiv. His scientific achievements are sufficiently highlighted and protected by dissertations, however, the creative activity of R. Yatsiv turned out to be in the shadow of the scientific image.

He works in the field of easel painting, graphics, book design, and photo art.

His artistic canvases are moody, emotionally sensitive coloristic constructions. Most of the works are based on improvisations of Ukrainian landscapes. This is abstract painting with a high level of harmony of planar-rhythmic juxtapositions of color nuances and dynamic compositions based on lines and spots.

Participant of art exhibitions since the late 1980s. Personal exhibitions in Lviv, Rivne, Drohobych (Lviv region), Kramatorsk (Donetsk region), Kyiv, Odessa, Druzhkivka, Bakhmut (both — Donetsk region), Lutsk, Kolomyia (Ivano-Frankivsk region), Ivano-Frankivsk; Przemysl, Czestochowa, Lodz, Poznań (Poland), Toronto (Canada).

In addition, he is an art theorist in the field of easel painting, graphics, book design and photographic art. Author of over 700 scientific publications, a number of author’s monographs and albums. Member of the Jury of the International Exhibition of the Euroregion of the Carpathians «Silver Square», author and organizer of scientific and creative projects. Honored Worker of Culture of Ukraine, member of the Artists Union of Ukraine, member «Club of Ukrainian Artists».

Scientific novelty: An attempt has been made to conduct a retrospective art historical analysis of the exhibitions of painting and graphics of 2017—2026 by Roman Yatsiv in the context of his art historical activities.

Boikos’ pandemonium: categories of evil deceased
In the article have been presented some research-work on peculiarities of Boikos’ traditional demonological notions as for so-called evil deceased; on the basis of field records and ethnological literary sources quite a number of scum categories have been defined as well as essential habits, modes of behavior and functions of these personages of people’s demonology.

On bessarabian and moldavian ukrainians in the studies of historical ethnography
The article has thrown some light upon a sum of scientific findings got during XIX to XXI cc. in historio-ethnographic studies of Bessarabia and Moldavian Ukrainians. In the pre­sent paper has been given author’s answer to the problem of lacking progress as for the numerous themes concerning Ukrainians. State and achievements of the research-works in Ukrainians’ material and spiritual culture by the scientists of Moldavia and Ukraine through the years of independence has been exposed.

Maternity ritualism by volhynians in publications of the second half XIX to the early XXI cc.
In the article have been considered some basic landmarks for fixing and publication of ethnographic materials on the maternity rites of Volhynia with analytical study in ritual elements, their kinds and territories of origin. The article has also raised a problem of gaps in studies of maternity rites of Ukrainian historio-ethnographic Volhynia.

Daily bread baking of ukrainians in the south-western ethnographical region at the late XIX to early XXI cc.
The paper has dealt with analytic study in prescriptions, signs, customs, methods, ways of selection, procurement and some peculiarities in usage of subsidiary means — water, firewood and leaves in bread baking. The final aim of the mentioned actions had been (and still is) selection of the means and ingredients fit, by their characteristics, for the backing of bread. The paper has demonstrated dependence of bread backing subsi­diary means criteria from the folk nutritional standards and world outlook stereotypes as well as from regional social and economic, natural and geographical factors and peculiarities of material culture.
