Abstract. Introduction. Analysis of the artists’ interpretation of the cultural and artistic heritage of Ukrainians in modern creative practices, clarification of its place and role in the artistic process of the early XXI century is a priority of the humanities and, in particular, requires an art view to understand the real state of art and expectations, its development.

The relevance of this research topic was confirmed by the intensification of understanding and modern interpretation of the artistic heritage of Ukrainians, who have gained exceptional importance during the Revolution of Dignity and the war in eastern Ukraine.

The source base of the article was the author’s observations of modern creative practices of artists, information from Internet sources.

Methods. The study was conducted on the basis of methods of hermeneutics and art analysis, systemic and axiological approaches.

Results. The article in the context of trends in Ukrainian society and culture of the early XXI century revealed the features of the manifestation of ethnicity in the creative practices of artists. The special role of folk arts and crafts was emphasized, its influence on the formation of national consciousness and patriotic civic position of Ukrainians was clarified, in particular, a new interpretation of ethnic symbols was highlighted, which caused the events of the Revolution of Dignity and the war in eastern Ukraine, in which artistic practices became extremely relevant.

In the article the next conclusions are drawn. The artistic practices of Ukrainians at the beginning of the XXI century, which are characterized by broad pluralism and creative subjectivism, produce a wide range of various manifestations of sharply topical reflections, a significant place in which belongs to the expression of ethnic meanings.

Today, one of the effective mechanisms for shaping the image of the state in the international arena is cultural diplomacy, based on the exchange of ideas, values and other components of identity. Artistic practices play a prominent and important role here. In today’s globalized world, where maintaining identity at different levels of human existence has become a challenge for every nation, the work of Ukrainian artists, based on deep cultural strata, represents patriotism and civic position and at the same time affirms Ukrainian culture.
