Abstract. Introduction. The study identifies the relevance of the modernization of academic painting in the system of modern art education with an emphasis on the dynamics of color as a leading factor in the formation of students‘ pictorial thinking. Educational still lifes and figurative compositions are considered as open pedagogical models that can activate visual perception and contribute to the development of a holistic artistic vision. The role of color, tone, lightness and saturation in creating spatial and emotional expressiveness of an educational setting is analyzed, as well as the significance of the concept of conditioned color in academic practice. The article traces the evolution of approaches to working with color in the still life genre based on historical and art experience and theoretical positions of the classics of color science. The need to integrate theoretical knowledge of color science, coloristics and the psychology of visual perception into the practice is substantiated. It has been proven that focusing on the dynamics of color in educational productions contributes to the formation of professional pictorial thinking, the development of coloristic culture, and students‘ ability to consciously generalize artistically within the framework of the academic tradition.

The purpose of the study is to theoretically substantiate and pedagogically understand the dynamics of color as a key means of modernizing academic still lifes and figurative compositions in the process of professional training of future artists, as well as to determine its role in the formation of students’ holistic pictorial thinking.
