PEDAGOGICAL ACTIVITY OF ROMAN YATSIV

Abstract. Introduction. The article is devoted to study the main areas of pedagogical activity of Roman Yatsiv, an outstanding Ukrainian scientist, artist, and long-time lectuter of Lviv art educational institutions, in particular, the Lviv National Academy of Arts. The celebration of the scholar’s anniversary highlights the relevance of rethinking his pedagogical activity.
The article`s purpose is to highlight the main areas of Roman Yatsiv’s teaching activities, establish the theoretical, ideological and methodological principles that he is guided by, record the chronology and names of the disciplines that he taught and continues to teach, and his role in educating a new generation of scientists who defended their PhD theses under his guidance.
Methods. For the article, an interview was conducted with Roman Yatsiv, his students, and colleagues. When studying the scholar’s scientific work, methods of analysis and synthesis were used to highlight aspects related to teaching activities.
Results. Important for the formation of Roman Yatsiv as a teacher was his family, in particular, his father Myron Yatsiv. He was also influenced by teachers from the Lviv State Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts, as well as colleagues from the Ethnology Institute of the NAS of Ukraine and the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. During his almost 30 years of teaching activity, Roman Yatsiv taught the disciplines «History of Ukrainian Graphics», «Art of the 20th Century», «Art History», «Scientific Research», held the positions of Vice-Rector for Scientific Work (2007-2021), Head of the Department of Artistic Wood at the Lviv National Academy of Arts.
Conclusion. In his teaching work, Roman Yatsiv actively uses both general pedagogical and museum pedagogy methods and multimedia tools, works on creating a theoretical basis for understanding the place of Ukrainian art in world cultural processes, which serves as a solid foundation for the search for their own creative handwriting of future specialists in creative specialties. In addition, he participates in the education of a new generation of scientists, in particular those who defended their PhD theses under his guidance.
