Abstract. The article presents the memories of Yaroslav Mykolayovych Taras on the occasion of his 80th birthday, tells about his life path and scientific achievements: studies at school, institute, graduate school, work at Chisinau Polytechnic Institute, Oran University of Science and Technology (Algeria); personal impressions from the stay in Moldova, Algeria, the way back to Ukraine, work at the Institute of Ethnology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine are highlighted. Therefore, the purpose of the research is against the background of events in the second half of the 20th century — at the beginning of the 21st century to present the history of the life and formation of a scientist in Ukraine.
The subject of the research is the life story of a scientist against the background of the events that took place in the second half of the 20th century — and to the present day (when the author was born during the Second World War and lived until the beginning of the Third World War). The spirit of the time in which the author lived, studied and worked is reproduced, highlight the events that influenced his formation as an architect, ethnologist and which affected his scientific output, shares impressions about individuals who were etched in his memory and had significance in his formation as a scientist.
The source base of memories is actual material from the life of Yaroslav Taras.
The methodological basis of the research is scientific-biographical and structural-typological methods. in general, the intelligence methodology is based on general scientific principles and basic requirements, which are set for works of historical and ethnological directions.
