HISTORY OF CREATION AND CLOSURE OF THE KYIV EXPERIMENTAL WORKSHOP OF ART CERAMICS (1944—1987)

Abstract. The article, based on the study of archival materials, systematizes and analyzes the preconditions for the emergence and closure of one of the leading institutions in Ukraine — the Kyiv Experimental Workshop of Art Ceramics.

It was found that the Experimental Workshop began its activities in 1944 and ended its actual existence in 1987 (chronological boundaries of the study). The precondition for the creation of the workshop was the need to enrich the interiors and exteriors of architectural structures and ensembles of the war-torn Kyiv with artistic ceramics and modernize its decorative possibilities. Thus, this topic has become especially relevant in our time.

So the object of research is the Kyiv Experimental Workshop of Art Ceramics, and the subject is archival materials that shed light on the topic.

The methodological basis of the study is the principle of historicism in combination with elements of structural and functional analysis and use of basic methods of ethnological science: archiving, interviewing, typological, comprehensive and retrospective analysis, scientific description, comparative analogies, classification, typological analysis, interpretation, historical reconstruction, etc.

The methodology involves recourse to the factual method  — the analysis of archival documents of N. Fedorova and P. Musiienko. An integral part of this investigation were interviews with N. Krutenko, O. Hrudzynska, H. Sevruk, which made it possible to record new facts about the workshop.

Scientific novelty. Introduced into scientific circulation of the new information’s about the workshop, it leaders, and the main date of opening and closing of the researched institution was determined.

On field exploration of russian and belarusian ethnologists and etnolinguists in Ukrainian Polisia 1945—1980s
In the study based on a wide range of literary materials have been comprehensively characterised field research in Polisia of Ukraine, performed by Russian and Belarusian ethnologists during 1945—1980s as well as Moscow ethnolinguists and other researchers from ethnologic centres of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus in the course of realization of Ethnolinguistic Atlas of Polisia program. Particular attention has been paid to geography, methods, themes and research results of scientific projects.

Daily bread baking of ukrainians in the south-western ethnographical region at the late XIX to early XXI cc.
The paper has dealt with analytic study in prescriptions, signs, customs, methods, ways of selection, procurement and some peculiarities in usage of subsidiary means — water, firewood and leaves in bread baking. The final aim of the mentioned actions had been (and still is) selection of the means and ingredients fit, by their characteristics, for the backing of bread. The paper has demonstrated dependence of bread backing subsi­diary means criteria from the folk nutritional standards and world outlook stereotypes as well as from regional social and economic, natural and geographical factors and peculiarities of material culture.
