In the article has been affirmed a point that yet in time of primal consolidation by bearers of Slav culture a grain growing had played quite significant role in Proto-Slavs’ economical life. Confrontation of traditional grain-farm ritualism by Slav nations has been used to illustrate numerous similar phenomena leading us to springs of Slavdom and ethnocultural historical community.

Bosa Olha. On traditional homestead experience by re-settlers from San Basin, Lemko land, Chelm region and Pidlissia area: to historiography of a problem. P. 933-940

The article brings review of source materials and studies concerned of traditional economic activities by Ukrainian population re-settled from San Basin, Lemko land, Chelm region and Pidlissia area as well as some peculiarities of transformations in the ways of living and adaptation under new socio-cultural conditions. Analyses in scientific publications enables us to state that in Ukrainian ethnological literature quite sufficient attention had been paid to the studies of traditional activities only, while rather wide range of problems connected with structural changes in different branches of farming of the Ukrainians deported from San Basin, Lemko land, Chelm region and Padlissia area still remains in need of substantial research-works.

Horbal Maria. On some subjects of Lemko Christmas legends and tales in the processes of interethnical mutual penetration. P. 941-946

In the article have been analyzed some Christmas subjects of legends and tales spread in the Lemko region, viz. themes of animal epics, those of vegetative growth and miracles of Nativity night with variations of ones in Boikos, Lemkos, in the whole Galicia, as well as in Moldovans and Slovaks. As a result author claims that the interpenetration of those subjects had taken place especially between the nations that had no their statehood (as Ukrainians and Slovaks, for example); while cultural cooperation of ruling and suppressed nations had been rare or not any at all.

Chmelyk Roman. On establishing of Soviet-Polish frontier in Ukraine as a process (1939—1951) and its reflection by memory of local population. P. 947-952

In the article have been touched some questions connected with establishing of Soviet-Polish frontier during the World War II and after its end. Especial attention has been paid to specific methodology in the studies of borderland inhabitants’ reminiscences. On the ground of field materials an analytical research has been performed as for local dwellers’ mental reflections upon the events related with processes and mechanisms involved in formation and functioning of state frontiers at 1939 to 1951.

Vovchak Andrii. On contemporary trends in development of ukrainian folk means of transportation: «dyga» phenomenon. After materials of expeditions to Western Boiko land (Turka region of Lviv oblast, 2008 and 2009). P. 953-971

In the article has been considered quite interesting phenomenon of folk technical thought and homestead industrial activities by rural inhabitants of Western Boiko land at the second half of XX and early bXXI cc., viz. construction of self-moving vehicle of a type called «dygas» along the mentioned territory. As for technical characteristics the especial attention has been paid to some typical solvings, decisions and reasons in homemade machines constructing and complementation of ones with serially produced engines and mechanisms. The survey also deals with the problem of time and reasons for appearance of self-moving homemade vehicles in this territory. An attempt to discover the inventors of «dyga» has also been made. The evolving in various types of homemade machines, peculiarities of their production and tendencies in contemporary progress of the phenomenon have been put under analysis.

Fedyna Oksana. On ukrainian traditional folk clothes in Kateryna Mateyko’s research-works. P. 972-981

The article presents an analytic study on creative heritage left by Kateryna Mateyko, contemporary Ukrainian ethnographer, art scholar and researcher in Ukrainians’ traditional folk clothes. The scientist’s life work is still worthy phenomenon to be kept as well as successful framework for further research approaches to artistic values of Ukrainian traditional folk dresses. Definitions of clothing and costume in present-day art scholarship have been given with analyses of image-styled and compositional features of country- and townspeople’s clothes in Eastern Galicia at the late XIX c.

In the article have been considered some problems in iconography and iconographic origin of subjects in iconostasis by hieromonk Hiob Kondzelevych at the church of Exaltation of Holy Cross, Skyt Maniavsky Monastery. Iconographic contents and plot structures of Skyt Maniavsky monastic iconostasis have been presented and studied with thorough analysis in their features.

Ivanyshyn Natalia. On historical dynamics in development of Lviv graphical art: to a problem of formation of imaginative system. P. 1007-1011

In the article has been considered a problem as for formation and development of graphical art at Lviv. The earliest of hand-written artifacts from the territories of Galicia-Volhynian Principality that are known to scientists have been considered in the context Old Ruthenian art directly influenced by Christian Byzantine culture. General stages of historical dynamics in development of graphical art at Lviv have been traced up to the dawn of XIX c. when under the impact of different cultural and civilizing factors the system of graphical art as a kind of Fine Artistry had got quite significant chan¬ges and enrichments with new specializations. Against the wide factual background has been disclosed some local specific meanings in the notion of tradition according to centuries-long history of Lviv graphical art.

Pshenychny Dmytro. On Oleh Minko’s artistic weaving. P. 1031-1039

In this publication have been considered some phenomena of artistic weaving by Oleh Minko, eminent and widely-known creative artist of Ukraine. Especial attention has been paid to monumental typestries and curtains, thematic textile panels, woven souvenir objects, clothing cloths, that among other artist’s creations remain less studied as for now. Those have been decorated with stylized Ukrainian geometrical ornaments and possessed quite refined colouring as well as faced factures, i.e. as artifacts truly characterize the artist’s individuality. Some thematic works re-create to a certain extent an ideological symbolism of past decades. The artistic qualities and features of creator’s works have been put to thorough analytical study; the light has been thrown upon interconnections of his artistic weaving and paintings.

Daily bread baking of ukrainians in the south-western ethnographical region at the late XIX to early XXI cc.
The paper has dealt with analytic study in prescriptions, signs, customs, methods, ways of selection, procurement and some peculiarities in usage of subsidiary means — water, firewood and leaves in bread baking. The final aim of the mentioned actions had been (and still is) selection of the means and ingredients fit, by their characteristics, for the backing of bread. The paper has demonstrated dependence of bread backing subsi­diary means criteria from the folk nutritional standards and world outlook stereotypes as well as from regional social and economic, natural and geographical factors and peculiarities of material culture.

In the article have been considered some basic landmarks for fixing and publication of ethnographic materials on the maternity rites of Volhynia with analytical study in ritual elements, their kinds and territories of origin. The article has also raised a problem of gaps in studies of maternity rites of Ukrainian historio-ethnographic Volhynia.

Traditional folk clothes of velikobychkovsky hutsuly of XIX — the first half of XX century
In the study based upon numerous field materials, literature sources as well as ethnographic, historio-cultural and regional museum collections has been performed complex analysis in traditional folk clothes by Hutzul population of Velyky Bychkiv village in Transcarpathian region. Detailed descriptions of femi­nine and masculine clothing complexes of the mentioned area have been presented. In characterizing of those main attention has been paid to the detail of cut in separate components of dress; cut of feminine shirt has been added as an illustration.

Wax candle as ukrainian Christmas and epiphany ritualistic text
For the first time in native ethnology the article has brought some results of special study in sign functionality of a wax candle under the context of Ukrainian Christmas and Epiphany ritualistic text (ritualism of Christmas Eve, New Year, Epiphany Eve and Feast of Epiphany). The study has stated extremely high semiotic position of a wax candle as projection of Sun, mediator between the spheres of sacral and prophane elements, symbolic analogue of human existence, apotropy, cultural symbol re-establishing borders of acculturated space.
